Sponsorship Messages and Your Story

Everyone struggles to find the right words when telling friends about their challenge and the cause they support.

We want to make it easy and comfortable to shout out your successes and why you are looking for sponsorship to help you get across the line.

Quick Guides

Here are two quick links to get you started
1. How to find and share your fundraising page
2. Done-For-You Fundraising Message to Friends and family

What Next?

You have some suggestions above, but we thought we’d give you “The Why”.

Your Million Steps is a 100-day celebration of MOVEment and well-being. And people love to hear stories. So, it’s important to tell your supporters about:

  • the things (big and small) that you have done
  • a place you visited or a route you travelled (it does not have to be the highest mountain; it could be a unique building, a bed of flowers, a bird, or even a weed!)
  • if you had to jog on the spot in your home, bravo! Talk about what it was like to make it a habit
  • how do you feel celebrating MOVEment
  • take a picture or a short video and share it

Why?

Firstly, and most importantly, for ourselves.

We start to build a habit of being aware of the little things around us that we often miss in our busy lives. It’s a beautiful way to remember the journey and look back on it at the end.

Secondly, stories and images are important because they help us communicate the emotions and reasons for our journey, as well as why our friends and family should support us and the cause we are supporting.

You don’t need to share photos of your stats/steps; your supporters will know your achievements on your fundraising page.

But tell them the story of YOUR journey. Your supporters will cheer you on, find out more about the cause you support, and, if able, help with a donation.

Here’s a simple outline of a message that you can use:

1. What have you done?

Today, I walked [xxxx] steps, and I [saw/noticed/want to share] a [picture/video/thought/quote]

2. Brief description.

Explain the place, picture, thought, quote, or emotions you have

Tell the reader what it felt like

> Was it challenging? Was the weather awful?
> Was it a glorious day? And you are so happy you got out
> Did you notice something you never noticed before or
> What jogging or pacing around the house has taught you?

3. Easy Copy and Paste Template
Just copy the example below and fill in your story.

Today, I walked [xxxx] steps, and I [saw/noticed/want to share] a [picture/video/thought/quote]

I am walking 500 miles in 100 days. That’s One Million Steps and further than London to Zurich, Switzerland, 8,800 times around a football pitch, or almost 19 Marathons!

It’s a tough one, but I’m proud to do it for [Name of Charity] because [the reason you are supporting the charity]

Your support and donations will keep me going. Thank you!

Speak to your friends and family. Reflect on the subtle changes. Share them. Start the conversation.

When you do, you get better at reflecting and communicating your 100-day journey and shout out your successes, learnings, and the cause you support.
